Haiku by Kip

Pelican glides low
Wingtips kiss glassy surface
A lone feather floats

Little blue hunting
Quick-step wing-flap head-thrust dance
Fish wriggles on beak

Morning whisp mists dance
Apparitions of the dawn
Horizon glowing

Mirror water steams
Stillness broken by breath
Grey nose slips away

Knobby-kneed swamp trees
Cathedral of the spirit
Tree frog choir sings

Early morning sun
Fire-edged palmetto fan
Lonely longleaf pine

Naked heart endures
Awakening mountain strength
Shaping a man’s life

Empty mind looks deep
Mountain valley spirit hides
Fog invites my thought

Distant howls echo
Over snow-muffled landscape
Wild fills my ears
